Spearheading the DOMA case is Olivia’s very own Edie Windsor, who you may have seen on our Majestic Alaska Cruise last September or our 40th Anniversary Caribbean Cruise II in February.
For those of you who don’t know, Edie spent 46 years with her partner, Thea Speyer, and after Thea’s death, the government refused to recognize their marriage by taxing Edie’s inheritance. This would not have happened if she was married to a man.
Edie has taken on the fight for her right as an American to have her marriage recognized by the federal government and to be treated equally in the eyes of the law. We ask that you join us in supporting her fight—in our fight really—because this affects all of us. We are not second-class citizens. We deserve the same rights as heterosexual couples. And we’ll fight for as long as we have to in order to achieve them.
Today and tomorrow are big days in the fight for marriage equality!
We’ll be here at the office, keeping Edie in our thoughts and prayers.
